A new kind of Prophet… In fact, several of them… Internet Prophets

I am attending Steve Olsher’s “InternetProphetsLive” in Chicago. Brendon Burchard, Vishen Lakhiani – founder of Mind Valley, Jake Nickell – founder of threadless, Pam Hendrickson – former Tony Robbins leader, Mike Koenigs, Joel Comm, and more! Amazing list of speakers. And Lifebook is one of the sponsors of the event. What a privilege to be in the room with so many great marketing minds!

You need an extra dose of heartiness to be here this week as “the windy city” became “the flooded windy city.” Yet people have come from all over the country and all over the world to be in attendance. They have rented cars and driven when the major airports were shut down. Why? Call it a workout for your mind. Where do you have limiting beliefs? When in the presence of some of the best marketing minds in the world, what nuggets can you find and take home with you? (Short answer: more than enough to keep your brain spinning into the wee hours!)

I encourage you to start following all the speakers here on Twitter and Facebook. The list of speakers is at InternetProphetsLive.com.

Don’t Touch That Phone!

I was visiting with my daughter and son-in-law yesterday. They shared a creative approach to having personal time not get usurped by our technology devices.

We’ve all seen this happen… You get together with family or friends. And everyone is on their phones posting social media updates, texting, etc. and essentially not paying attention to the people they are with. How can this situation be turned to take advantage of the relationship opportunities right before us?

They recommend that everyone put their mobile phone face down in the middle of the table. The first one who cannot “resist the urge” and grabs their phone for any reason gets the bill for the dinner. Nice.

Here’s to real social interaction face-to-face. As Crosby, Stills and Nash would say, “love the one you’re with”!

St. Patrick wasn’t Irish?

St. Patrick

Yes. It’s true. St. Patrick, the patron Saint of Ireland that we celebrate today by wearing green and consuming green beverages. That St. Patrick. Wasn’t Irish.

The truth is actually pretty awesome.

Patrick was born in Scotland. His parents were British under the control of Romans at the time. When Patrick was a young boy he was captured by the Irish and made a slave. During his captivity he turned to God.

Patrick remained a slave for approximately six years. When he was 20 he escaped after God gave him a message in a dream. He returned to England and was reunited with his family.

Now for the awesome part.

God gave him another dream, calling him back to Ireland.

Patrick became a priest and later a Bishop. And he was sent to Ireland. Back to the land where he was a slave… and he went and had incredible impact on the country and, through his work, the world. Centuries later we still recall this incredible man and his walk of faith. He was not bitter to the people and place of his enslavement. Rather he showed forgiveness and love. And his life became an example for us all.

Happy St. Patrick’s day! May you live, forgive and love (and wear green) on this fine day!
